Messier 52 open cluster
Messier 52 open cluster

One of the sky's best open star clusters. The stars in an open cluster are usually relatively young, having been born at about the same time by condensing from gas clouds in space. Litebox 15" F/5 Dobsonian, 13mm LVW eyepiece (147x). Anza-Borrego desert, CA. 2008-10-31.
Czernik 43 open cluster
Czernik 43 open cluster

A tiny open star cluster (with nebulosity) in the same neighborhood as the Bubble Nebula. With the right eyepiece, you can fit both in the same view. Litebox 15" F/5 Dobsonian, 13mm LVW eyepiece (147x) + OIII filter. Anza-Borrego desert, CA. 2008-11-01.

The Dog-Butt cluster in Canis Major, named so by Hawaiian astronomer Barry Peckham of LITEBOX Telescopes. It's called the Dog-Butt because of its proximity to the Big Dog's...well, you know. This is one of my favorite open clusters.
